Cassandra Nova's full name is "Cassandra Nova Xavier". Now you may find out that this villain is somehow connected to Professor Charles Xavier. And you were as you are, as this protagonist is a sister of Charles Xavier. She is a twin sister of him, but not a normal twin sister like every other. In the world of Marvel, there is a concept called "Mummudrai", and this villain came from that concept. In simple words, mummudrai is a direct opposite of a character that doesn't have any physical appearance. Just like the opposite version of a character itself, but it doesn't have any physical form or appearance and its life grows within the astral plane. For simplification, a Main character from reality and its mummudrai from the astral plane grow parallelly starting from the mother's womb. This happens the same with Charles and Cassandra. Cassandra is the mummudrai of Charles and he gets to know her evil existence and tries to kill her, but however, she survives.
A mummudrai is as powerful as its main character and as an anti-self of Charles, Cassandra is also as powerful as Charles Xavier. That's why Cassandra with her abilities formed a physical body by herself despite other mummudrais fading away with time. This origin story continues with different plotlines in comics, and we need to let it go to Marvel to explain more of Cassandra Nova, cause Kevin Feige may not like to exclude the entire plot or origin story from comics. He may like to extract the origin story and melt it with the movie plot dynamics, but not to get everything of this character from comics. So it's better to let Marvel explain and show us the remaining story of this protagonist as per the movie plot dynamics.
